CRISIS ANALYST

Positions: 40-45

Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Crisis Committees or Director of Specialized Agencies (depending on Branch assignment)

 

Crisis Analysts are in charge of the creation of scenarios and crises in the Specialized Agencies and Crisis Committees. The creative force behind the Special Agencies/Crisis Committees, they work in the Crisis Room to ensure that delegates are given stimulating and exciting crises. Crisis Analysts will have the opportunity to be involved in all manner of interesting work, from preparing mock press releases and managing real-time crisis reports to delivering intelligence briefs and role-playing. Ideal candidates are organized and creative team players who can thrive in high-stress environments

 

Crisis Analysts are expected to:

  • Be able to develop creative yet realistic crises in response to committee actions

  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly training sessions (from October to February)

  • Be familiar with the academic content of their assigned topic

  • Work cooperatively with Crisis Managers and Analysts in a fast-paced environment

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

 

Prior experience with Model UN is not necessary - your enthusiasm is what matters the most!

MODERATOR

Positions: 17

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Procedures and Training + respective Branch director

 

The Moderator is the enforcer of the Committee, the expert on the parliamentary Rules of Procedure responsible for ensuring that debate runs smoothly. Moderators work closely with their assigned Chairs to ensure a positive experience for delegates. Moderators are expected to be acquainted with the thematic focus of their respective committees. Ideal candidates should be organized, detail-oriented, and interested in developing strong public speaking skills

 

Moderators are expected to:

  • Monitor Committee debate in a fair and professional manner

  • Be familiar with the Rules of Procedure of NAMUN, and be able to address any procedural questions from delegates

  • Interact comfortably with delegates, addressing issues and concerns in the committee room

  • Lead a committee of 15-60 delegates, together with the Chair

  • Attend weekly training sessions (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

 

There will be 1 assigned Moderator for each committee.

Moderators in all Committees follow a standardized set of rules that they will learn in Training Sessions. Moderators may be expected to learn additional Rules of Procedure due to the differing styles of Committees

ICJ Advocate

Positions available: 4

Time commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Reports to: President of the ICJ + Director of Specialized Agencies

 

Advocates serve in teams of two to argue the merits of the contentious case, representing either the applicant (Ukraine) or respondent (Russia). They will be asked to coordinate closely with each other and the officers of the court in the months leading up to the conference to prepare evidence and arguments. The ICJ at NAMUN will not follow standard MUN procedure, and therefore will appeal to those with an interest in international law, dispute resolution, and debate, among others.

 

ICJ Advocates are expected to:

  • Participate in and document training sessions, events, and other NAMUN related happenings throughout the year.

  • Attend regular meetings with the ICJ panel (From October to February).

  • Research cases and analyze evidence prior to the conference.

  • Actively coordinate with their advocate partner and witnesses.

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019).

 

ICJ witness

Positions available: 3-4

Time commitment: 0-2 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Specialized Agencies + President of the ICJ

 

Witnesses will be briefed on their role and the background of the case by the officers of the court, and be given a script/prompts and further preparation by the advocates/lawyers for the side that has called them. Witnesses testify for 60-90 minutes in the afternoon of Friday, February 22, 2019. 

The parts of this testimony are direct examination, which you will have knowledge of beforehand, cross-examination, which you will have to use your preparation and skill to answer, and judges’ questioning, which clarifies issues raised by the advocates.

 

ICJ Witnesses are expected to:

  • Participate in and document training sessions and NAMUN related happenings throughout the year.

  • Attend meetings with the ICJ panel and advocate teams (From October to February).

  • Memorize evidence provided by the advocate teams.

  • Answer questions posed by judges during a cross-examination and be knowledgeable of their assigned area of expertise. 

  • Be present during the afternoon of Friday, February 22, 2019.

Corporate relations COORDINATOR

Positions: 1 

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Corporate Relations, Deputy Secretary General Operations

 

Corporate Relations Coordinators are the core operational and organizational staff for NAMUN. They will have the opportunity to explore areas of the organization such as business, marketing and social affairs, with tasks like formulating business and marketing strategies and handling conference logistics. Ideal candidates are organized, driven, and interested in learning about fundraising and sponsorship in a conference setting.

 

Corporate Relations Coordinators are expected to:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of sponsorship strategies for NAMUN 2018

  • Assist with the functioning of conference logistics in whatever capacity required

  • Work well independently and in a small-team setting

  • Attend bi-weekly or monthly meetings with Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

COMMUNICATIONS & Design Coordinator

Positions: 2

Time Commitment: 1-4 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design 

 

Communication is key for any successful conference. Communications & Design Coordinators help communicate NAMUN's message through graphic design and print materials. They work with the Branding & Design team to tell NAMUN's story across multiple platforms. Ideal candidates should be organized, creative, and interested in developing new skills.

 

Branding & Design Coordinators are expected to:

  • Collaborate with Branding & Design team to design NAMUN content

  • Manage and publish posts for the NAMUN social media accounts

  • Help format documents and other NAMUN merchandise 

  • Attend bi-weekly or monthly meetings with Directors (from October to February)


Some experience with Adobe Creative Suite is recommended.

Senior Copy EDITOR, THE EMISSARY

Positions: 1

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

The Senior Copy Editor will review and edit all written work that will be produced for the Emissary to ensure that everything published is at the highest academic quality. From reports on committees to socials to interviews, the Senior Copy Editor should be well versed in all topics. Ideal candidates are able to interact effectively with all kinds of people, are interested in journalism, creative writing, and working in a fast-paced environment.

 

The Emissary Senior Copy Writer is expected to:

  • Publish articles reporting on NAMUN 2019 events and proceedings

  • Participate in and observe training sessions, staff and delegate events and other NAMUN-related happenings throughout the year

  • Help update The Emissary and different social media platforms throughout the year

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

 

Prior experience with journalism is recommended.

Senior VIDEOGRAPher

Positions: 1

Time Commitment: 0-4 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

The Senior Videographer will bring NAMUN to life in a new way through dynamic video content. They will be plan, create and develop video content in collaboration with the Directors of Branding and Design. Ideal candidates should have great story telling skills, be creative, organized and interested in developing their videography skills in a high-paced environment.

 

The Senior Videographer is expected to:

  • Create regular video content that can be shared on NAMUN's social media

  • Overlook the content of the Videographers

  • Document training sessions, staff events and other NAMUN related happenings throughout the year

  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)


Prior videography experience is recommended.

JOURNALIST, THE EMISSARY

Positions: 6

Time Commitment: 0-2 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

Journalists seek out and document NAMUN-related news and stories over the course of the year. From reporting on committees and socials to holding interviews with delegates and staff members, NAMUN’s Journalists keep the public engaged and updated with the latest NAMUN 2019 news. Ideal candidates are sociable, able to work in a fast-paced environment and  interested in journalism and creative writing.

 

The Emissary Journalists are expected to:

  • Publish articles reporting on NAMUN 2019 events and proceedings

  • Participate in and observe training sessions, staff and delegate events and other NAMUN-related happenings throughout the year

  • Attend monthly meetings with the Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

Graphic Designers, THE EMISSARY

Positions: 3

Time Commitment: 0-2 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

Graphic Designers will aid in the creation and implementation of The Emissary magazine. Through developing layouts, creating graphics and implementing innovative ideas, the Graphic Designers will be able to bring to life the vision NAMUN 2019 has for The Emissary. Ideal candidates are creative, able to work in a fast-paced environment and interested in developing new skills.

 

The Emissary Journalists are expected to:

  • Create well-designed pages for The Emissary magazine and blog

  • Participate in and observe training sessions, staff and delegate events and other NAMUN-related happenings throughout the year

  • Attend regular monthly meetings with the Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

 

Some experience with Adobe Creative Suite is recommended.

PHOTOGRAPHERS + VIDEOGRAPHERS

Positions: 6

Time Commitment: 0-2 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

NAMUN’s photographers and videographers are the eyes of the conference, tirelessly documenting committee proceedings, social events, and moments throughout the conference. They provide delegates with the opportunities to relive their experiences and memories at NAMUN 2019 during and after the conference. Ideal candidates should be organized, responsible, and be interested in developing their event photography and videography skills in a high-paced environment.

 

Photographers and Videographers are expected to:

  • Document training sessions, staff events and other NAMUN related happenings throughout the year

  • Edit the photographs or videos produced

  • Watermark all content with the NAMUN logo

  • Attend monthly meetings with the Directors (from October to February)

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019)

 

Previous photography or videography experience is recommended.

 

*These positions are grouped together because you can apply to do both as it is more efficient for the conference, however if you would only like to do either photography or videography that is possible, just make sure to specify in your application.

App developer

Positions available: 1-2

Time commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Reports to: Co-Directors of Branding & Design

 

NAMUN is once again hoping to create of a NAMUN mobile app that is to be used by the delegates for general announcements, updates, academic content etc. The App Developer(s) will collaborate with the Director of Branding & Design in the creation, development, and maintenance of the NAMUN mobile app for iOS and Android that will be used for the duration of the conference. 

 

The App Developer(s) are expected to:

  • Work on the design and development of the NAMUN mobile app (under the guidance of the Director of Branding & Design).

  • Help to maintain and update the NAMUN mobile app within the duration of the conference.

  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings (from October to February).

  • Be present for the entirety of the conference (February 21-24, 2019).

 

Experience with mobile app development and/or coding is recommended.
