Position Papers
A position paper is a brief summary of a delegate’s agenda and desired outcomes for the duration of the conference. It is a broad statement of purpose and should clearly demonstrate or include the following:
A depth of knowledge relating to the issues presented in the background guide, including but not limited to:
A deep understanding of the stance of the delegate’s assigned country, faction, or character on the committee’s topic/topics of discussion.
Strategies the delegate might employ to develop this position and attain the country/character’s goals
Clear tangible objectives to be achieved throughout the committee’s sessions
In the case of delegates in Crisis committees, include public goals (achieved in conjunction with other delegates) and private goals (achieved through communication with the backroom via note).
-
Submission of an appropriate position paper before the deadline (February 18th, 11:00 PM EST) is required in order to be considered for any award.
Position papers should aim to cover all major topics introduced in the Background Guide of the assigned committee (ie. if IFAD has 2 topics, the position paper must assess and include discussion on both topics).
The best position papers in each committee will be recognized with a Book Award.
Ad Hoc committee delegates are not expected to submit a position paper.
Delegates may not use material generated by AI such as ChatGPT. Such material is often irrelevant and/or factually inaccurate, and represents a form of plagiarism. Plagiarism is taken seriously at NAMUN and may result in consequences for the delegate involved, including disqualification from awards.
